Portraying the conditions of the Vietnamese community through storytelling
At the heart of every Vietnamese Culture Night production is the story.
What is at stake in the Vietnamese and Vietnamese American community? What are the current issues that demand attention? What cultural aspects affect the Vietnamese experience both in the home and in the world? What is our history and heritage? Where do we come from?
We address these questions and more through our drama cast. They bring to life the messages, themes, and vision of VCN so that our audiences can gain new appreciation for the Vietnamese culture. Actors and actresses spend weeks researching their characters and the context surrounding the play — learning more not only about their culture but about their own personal identities.
In the past, our stories have addressed topics on:
- Human trafficking
- Refugee experience
- Interracial marriage
- Undocumented community
- Mental health
- Domestic abuse
- Gang violence
